Carousel

Carousel is an app for Mac OSX that enables you to view Instagram photographs taken by yourself and others.

First of all I find it hard to believe that the official Instagram website doesn’t even offer the simple things such as being able to view all your photos in a collection, browse photos, like them and view what others are taking, all that needs to happen via the Instagram app which, is available for the iPhone.

It’s a great app and sure enough you’ve probably seen plenty of photos online taken with the app, due to the awesome retro style filters that are available for it.

Now Carousel allows you to view all of the things you can in the iPhone app on your desktop.

The design of Carousel is pretty simple, really nice and clean, some simple wood textures, it works really well, the other themes that come pre-packaged with the app however are awful, really awful.

Daffney in the app

I also find it odd that photos do not have their default caption appear in the app by default, instead you have to click on any comments that are attached to the photo to view the name of it, a strange choice I believe.

I have sometimes found the app slow to pull in images too, though the ability to view the full-size versions (the one’s that get uploaded to Instagram) is great.

The price for me is another problem, at $4.99 it may not seem like a great deal of cash to part with, but there really isn’t that much to the app, it’s just a blown up version of the iPhone app but without any of the functionality to be able to actually take photos – you cannot change any of your details via the app either.

There is however a free trial of the app available via the official website so I would recommend you all to check that out first!
