Google Chrome Text Opacity

Friday, October 28, 2011

Came across a very strange bug today when checking out a website in Google Chrome.

White copy on a black background was not appearing, I could select the text and could also see it in Chrome’s Element Inspector.

I changed the color to ‘yellow’ from ‘#fff’ in the Inspector and suddenly the copy appeared but it was far from yellow, more like a gold colour, it was almost blurred too – it seemed like there was something going on with opacity on the text.

I quickly added ‘opacity: 1;’ to the document but no change, so I thought maybe it was to do with the font; I had got ‘-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased;’ enabled, was it that? No, instead I tried ‘text-rendering: auto;’ and BOOM the font was now appearing in the solid yellow colour.

It would seem that this is a bug with Chrome and seems to happen (or at least in my case) when you are using any webkit transitions on the site, it only appeared on random spans, but also appeared on a module which I was flipping with webkit.

Hope this helps others out!

Gowalla 4.0

Friday, September 23, 2011

Off the back of my original post about Gowalla, the team there have now released an updated version of the app and it’s absolutely beautiful to look at!

The update is stunning from a design perspective especially that loading animation when refreshing your lists, however I do feel the app itself has taken a direction I’m not thoroughly fond of….

Games I loved and nobody else seemed to…

Monday, September 5, 2011

I noticed something about myself recently; that some of my favourite video games of all time are also some of the most disliked games by reviewers and other games over the years!

It’s a shame really, those great memories I had in some games, wasn’t experienced by a lot of others due to bad reviews. Reviews determine what people buy and what they don’t, but sometimes you just need to try something for yourself.

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Well I’m trying and I’m trying but I’m just not ‘getting’ Gowalla.

The Duel

Monday, August 8, 2011

I recently borrowed a blu-ray called Halo: Legends from a good friend of mine, Legends is seven anime stories based on the world of the video game series Halo.

Overall it was pretty good, some really nice animation and some good stories to tell, but my personal favourite has to be The Duel, which chronicles the story of an Arbiter named Fal who after refusing to follow his covenants religion, is stripped of his titles and betrayed by the Covenant.

Link print and original sketch

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

I came across Alex Deligiannis’ brilliant interpretation of Link from Zelda around a month ago on Dribbble, I was instantly blown away and now, he is selling them on his personal website!

Not only that but I was lucky enough to buy his original sketch from the man himself, I can’t wait for it to arrive and am looking forward to it going up in my hallway!

Might have to get it tattooed…
